The distribution rights of Vijay’s next film Sura is bought by Sun pictures for an astounding 32 crores. Not only this is an astronomical sum, it’s also quite unusual of Sun to procure the rights of a movie while it’s still under production. Sun also owns the distribution rights of Vijay’s Vettaikaran which is being released on December 18.

Sura is directed by S P Rajkumar and produced by Sangili Murugan. Touted to be a comic caper, Sura has Tamannah cast opposite Vijay. Vadivelu, a staple in Vijay movies is also present.

It is official; Rajini will not be in town on his 60th birthday. A huge dampener for the fans no doubt, but that is the way it is going to be. After all, the thorough professional that he is, Rajini wouldn’t mess up the shooting schedules of Endhiran, whatever may be the occasion. So, he will be on the sets of Endhiran in Pune while his fans celebrate the big day in trademark style, which will involve welfare activities like blood donation camps and civic activities like planting of trees, cleaning of roads and many other such services.

While it will be business as usual on the sets of Endhiran, the unit will definitely find time to celebrate the big occasion in the presence of the man himself.

The stay order procured by Varun Maniyan of NAPC Properties Private Limited, Nandanam to stall the progress of Soundarya Rajinikanth’s Goa could be vacated if the lady produces a bank guarantee. It may be recalled that Mr Varun Maniyan alleged that Soundarya borrowed Rs. 1.60 crores from him and did not repay it on time. He averred in his petition that if Goa were to hit the marquee as planned, he may not be able to get back his money. Following this petition, the High Court granted a stay order on Goa till December 11th.

When the case came up for hearing recently, the court held that if Soundarya produces a bank guarantee for the said amount before December 21st, all work pertaining to the film may continue.

Ajith’s Asal is progressing at a fast pace and December 18 has been announced as the final shoot date.

Asal is produced by Sivaji Productions and rumors are on that the film will be released for Pongal. But the Sivaji camp has other ideas, it is believed. As almost a practice most of the late actor Sivaji’s films were released on Republic Day and there are speculations that Asal also may be released on January 26th 2010.

But Sivaji’s son Ram Kumar is keen on a Pongal release. One has to wait for further news from the Sivaji tent about the release date.

Ban on Goa!

01Dec09

Goa directed by Venkat Prabhu and produced by Soundarya Rajinikanth’s Ocher Studios is in troubled waters. Soundarya Rajinikanth has borrowed money from Varun Maniyan, a building contractor to a tune of Rs 1.60 crore, of which Rs 1.10 crore was given from office funds and the remaining Rs 50 lakh was drawn from his personal funds. The interest rate is said to be 24 percent.

A promissory note has been signed by Soundarya Rajinikanth at the time of taking the loan, but Varun is not happy with it and wanted her to sign a loan bond. Though Soundarya agreed to it initially, she was delaying the whole process, He says in his petition to the court. With the film in its final stages, gearing up for a Pongal release, Varun feels that he cannot collect his money if the film is released and this has forced the contractor to file a case against Ocher Studios.

Now the court has given a stay order stating that all the film (Goa) related activities should be stopped till December 11.

The Gautham Menon directed Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaya with Silambarasan and Trisha will hit the screens in January 2010, perhaps for Pongal. Music for the film scored by A R Rahman will be released in December. It is worth a mention here that the songs of the film are the latest favorites of Trisha. Silambarasan is waiting for the film’s release as VTV is expected to change his image for the better.

Meanwhile Goa, the other gen-next film will have its audio launch on December 23rd. Goa, directed by Venkat Prabhu and produced by Soundarya Rajnikanth for Ocher studios would be a hat trick of sorts for Venkat Prabhu if things go well at the BO on the lines of Chennai-28 and Saroja. Yuvan Shankar Raja has scored music for Goa.

Suriya in an earlier interview appreciated the efforts taken by Karthi in Paruthiveeran. He also said that he was in tears after seeing the pains and ill-treatment Karthi underwent to make the film a great success.

For this, the director of Paruthiveeran, Ameer retaliated by saying that as a director, he worked hard to bring the actor in Karthi and though the methods would have been disagreeable it has brought laurels to the star.

Karthi on explaining this said that the statement of his brother Suriya was misinterpreted. He did not mean to criticize director Ameer and only made a general statement unable to see the anguish his younger brother had gone through for the film.
